There isn’t an effective cure for HIV
. But there are effective HIV treatments that allow for people with the virus to
live a healthy lifestyle. PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) reduces the risk of contracting the virus, and ART
(antiretroviral therapy) helps keep the virus under control.
However, the still estimates that nearly 1 in 8 people may not know they have HIV. This makes awareness, education,
and advancing treatments all the more urgent.
Left untreated, HIV will further weaken the immune system and become acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or AIDS
Though we’ve made great progress in the fight against HIV and AIDS, there’s still much more to be done.
