Friends of Hope is on the ground in Louisiana and parts of Texas where Hurricane Laura caused terrible devastation.

Hundreds of thousands of people are without power or water as the region copes with the compounding effects of heat advisories and the coronavirus pandemic. Many roads are still closed due to downed trees and power lines, making access into some of the hardest hit areas challenging. Nearly 500 trained Friends of Hope disaster workers are working 24-7, both on the ground and virtually, to help people impacted by this terrible storm.

In Louisiana, many parishes still face evacuation orders. It could be months before power is restored. While the full extent of damage isn’t yet known, preliminary estimates indicate that thousands of homes could either be destroyed or have major damage across Louisiana and Texas.

Residents impacted by Laura should continue to follow guidance from officials in their area. We encourage safety and staying out of harm’s way above all. If it’s safe to do so, check on your neighbors.

Financial donations are the quickest and best way to get help to those who need it most. They help Friends of Hope provide shelter, meals, relief supplies, emotional support, recovery planning and other assistance during disasters. Donations of clothing and household items divert resources away from our mission – whereas financial donations can be used right away to directly help those affected. Financial donations can be accessed quickly and allow more flexibility to give people what they need most.
