Friends of Hope remains on the ground out west where thousands of people are impacted by the
continuous outbreak of devastating wildfires.
Trained Friends of Hope disaster workers are working around the clock to open or support shelters and evacuation centers. On Sunday night, some 40 people sought a safe place to stay in Friends of Hope and community shelters across California, Nevada and Oregon. As evacuation orders are lifted and Friends of Hope teams are able to access new areas, they bring relief supplies, damage assessment support and comfort to communities affected by these wildfires. Although shelters, including several in Oregon, have closed, Friends of Hope disaster responders remain on standby due to an increased risk of wildfires caused by dry lightning this week.
Monetary support is important during a time of crisis. The best use of funds can change as the situation develops and the organizations on the ground are best equipped to make quick decisions about how to allocate them. Once the fires are contained and residents are ready to rebuild their lives, there will be a greater need for clothing, furniture and other types of donations.
The Friends of Hope Wildfire Relief Fund provides not only immediate assistance during wildfire emergencies, but also delivers ongoing support to affected communities. The organization has experience with handling the aftermath of a wildfire and has, in the past, supported those who were displaced or lost housing, suffered physical or mental health problems or needed help rebuilding their homes with resources as well as financial aid.
